  We loved this thing when we first got it. It was so nice to have the peace of mind of seeing your child. There was always a lot of static though. We have had this monitor a year and haven’t even used it very much and it is already broken. It still has picture but you have to have it turned all the way up to hear any sound. I think it has some sort of short in it. Not worth the price!!!!

  This monitor is FANTASTIC! And the screen is bigger than some others. Quality is great and after using this for 6 months, I would certainly buy it again if I were doing it over. The video monitor saves alot of trips upstairs to check on the baby in the middle of the night - the extra sleep I get in my own bed makes this worth every penny!

  We initially purchased this item shortly after my son was born. At the time we lived in a one-story small house (2400sqf) on the outskirts of town. Since we didn’t have any neighbors close by and the house was small, the monitor worked flawlessly. Several months ago we moved into a larger two-story house in the middle of a neighborhood, with our bedroom on the ground level and the nursery on the upper.

  This is where it became spooky. The day we moved in, we were positioning the furniture and monitor in the new nursery. We plugged in the camera, and checked that hand-held to make sure the viewing angle was okay. We then decided to unplug the camera to use a different outlet, and the instant we unplugged it the picture of our child disappeared (obviously) but we were then able to see one of our neighbor’s babies lying in their crib. Needless to say, that was a bit disturbing. We switched frequensies, but we couldn’t get over the fact that someone else might be able to see our son.

  Even if the other baby had not shown up on our monitor, we soon found that we couldn’t use this monitor in our new house due to the fact of a high amount of interference when we tried to use it in our bedroom. With the layout of the new house (the nursery is on the opposite side of the house and on a differnet floor) the unit just isn’t strong enough to cover the distance.

  On a positive note, while in our old house we had very little interference and the picture was great. If we cranked the volume up, we could easily hear our baby breathing. In the new house, the video of the neighbor’s child that first night was crystal clear. Just thinking about it, though, creeps me out….

  We received this monitor as a very generous gift from my parents at our baby shower and I was thrilled to have the video and audio features in a monitor. The monitor has lost it’s picture after only a year and the overall quality of this less than expensive product is not worth the money in my opinion. Also, the company does not offer a replacement monitor, they only offer a replacement camera which is not helpful when the montior, which is often moved from room to room in our house is what takes the wear and tear, whereas the monitor remains immobile for the most part and would often not need replacing. I would have registered for a different product had I read some of these “lower star” reviews prior. I won’t be purchasing a Summer product again.

  This is our second monitor. The first is still in use by our first born. This one is used by our newborn girl. I can not recommend this product enough for parents.

  The product worked great while it lasted but after a year, the video quit working (the audio still works). We were very disappointed especially because of the amount of money we paid for it.

  The monitor is great! the image is b/w but very good. The only problem I see is the audio which is not too clear, but it really does the job and I think the price is very good compared to others.

  This is a decent concept but the makers fell short on design when they included such cheap audio electronics. The monitor and video quality are as expected - black and white CRT screen with a vertical hold adjuster, which you’ll need to use just like the old days of black and white TV. Nighttime vision is OK but I have seen better IR illumination on cameras.

  The main problem is that the microphone is set to such a sensitive level that there is no way to avoid noise on the other end. There is no way to turn the sound down to an acceptable level on the reciever, so you must turn the sound off to avoid the nuisance of constant static and buzzing. The sensitivity overload is further enhanced by the blinking red lights (visual cue to sound) that blink constantly, even when there is silence by the microphone.

  Since bad audio reception and static are the main consumer complaints about these types of products, I recommend avoiding this unit until they can figure out the audio issues. If you’re just looking for good video coverage for cheap, then this might be a good unit for you.

  I have used this monitor for over 4 years on a daily/nightly basis. I think it has been great. The only thing that went wrong with ours was that the antenna broke off. We soddered it back on and it has been fine. We have moved the camera fromm different rooms and different places in our house and have had great reception. But you get great picture and sound. I can usually understand everything my son is saying or crying about when I listen.

  This is a great product and when I bought this camera/monitor setup two years ago it did not have a color picture, higher transmission frequency, nor could you use two cameras for one monitor and switch back and forth, as you can now and the monitor has a larger screen than it did back then. All reasons why I upgraded when the power adapter on my old monitor no longer worked to charge the monitor anymore and the warranty had expired just prior to the monitor going on the fritz. Unfortunately, the old camera was incompatible with the current model, but for good reason with all the upgrades to it described above.

  The only problem I find is that I have to turn the volume on the monitor down at night, otherwise the static pops keep my wife and I awake. Turning the volume down low, however, somewhat defeats the purpose–which is to monitor the kids in the other room for signs of trouble.

  We have a second camera in our daughter’s room (2 years old) that does not suffer as much from the static problems as does the one located in our son’s (9 months old) room. It is not due to the distance either, as both kids rooms are upstairs next to ours and equadistant to the monitor on our nightstand next to our bed.

  The camera is very good for picture color in daylight and black and white at night. The infared at night is exceptional and you can see everything you would want to, even when they are not asleep and you can see their little eyes looking at you (well, looking into the camera’s green light that is). The camera also gives exceptional sound quality of everything in the room. When we put our son down for a nap and turn on his Bach mobile you can hear it quite loudly even though the camera is four feet away from his crib and the volume of the mobile is on low.

  All in all a good product, that I would recommend for any new parents that want to keep an eye on thier kids.

  great purchase, worth the money. get for peace of mind. i bought a second camera for my daughter’s room and i use them daily.

  I was a little worried after seeing the reviews here, but my wife called Summer and they assured us that this was the correct camera for our situation and told us they would take it as a return if it did not work.

  It works!

  We have a 15 month old son and a daughter on the way in a few weeks. We were about to buy a second video monitor system when my wife learned about just getting a second camera for our current system and using the B channel.

  Brilliant. Only one monitor to haul around and far less expense than having to buy another whole system.

  We installed the camera in our son’s new “big boy room” and tuned it to channel B and we switch between A for the “infant room” and B for his room and it works great.

  The “night vision’ is outstanding. You get a “night-vision” view of your child which is surprisingly clear and sharp. The day camera is full color and crisp as well.

  Occasionally if you move far enough from the camera and there are others in your neighborhood with the same camera, you will get their kid instead of your own - but this has never been a real problem for us.

  I also saw a review where one person was surprised there was no “scanning” or way to see two children at once. I don’t know if they had the first system and then added on, or bought the whole thing at once. If they added on, then I’d say that it was pretty obvious that you weren’t going to get a “scanner” or “see two cameras at once” view. It is pretty clear you will have to switch from A to B with a simple switch on the side.

  The way we use the camera, that is perfectly fine. You don’t sit and watch your kid like it is a tv show. You merely click on the tv monitor from time to time to check on them, especially if you think you hear something. We’ve found this to be an outstanding option and thank you Summer for not forcing us to buy a whole new system when all we needed was one more camera!

  We bought this a second camera for the handheld monitor + camera. It initially worked but for some reason after a couple of days there was no video, only audio, from this source. No amount of configuring with the two cameras would make this unit work. The company, Healthcheck, gave us grief to no end about returning/exchanging. Not until we gave them a bad review on Amazon.com did they relent. You shouldn’t have to go through so much fighting to force customer service!

  I have two cameras attached to this monitor and it does the job just fine.

  It’s true that the cameras sometimes intefere with each other and the picture isn’t always crystal clear but toggling the “A/B” switch back-and-forth solves the first problem and who needs/expects a cystal clear picture in the dark from and easy to install, wireless, and relatively inexpensive device?!

  During daytime naps when the kids’ rooms aren’t pitch dark, I can see them clearly enough to know to if their eyes are shut but at night when their rooms are dark I lose lots of detail but can still see clearly enough to know if they’re moving around, on their back vs. tummmy, etc.

  Their might be better ones out there, but this has worked well enough for me that I never bothered shopping for a different one.

  The monitor works well but sometimes picks up other signals. Just move it a little and it improves though.

  I purchased these units believing they would allow the monitoring of a very ill family member during the night. The constant popping and buzzing has rendered them close to useless as that alone keep everyone awake. The flashing constantly of the bright led’s makes your room feel like a dance hall with flashing strobes

  I purchased this product because I cannot use anything in the 900MHz range where I live in Germany (we are military stationed in Germany). I needed something wireless and not 900MHz. I found this and purchased it. It has been the worst baby monitor that I have ever used BY FAR. I live in a relatively small townhouse, and I cannot get a signal to my baby’s room directly underneath of his room. Also, often times the monitor in my room, which is about 18 feet across the hall from his room, will beep because it’s lost the signal. There is NO signal that the receivers can pick up when it’s rainy outside. Often times I get waken up in the middle of the night to the monitor beeping because it has lost teh signal, and other times I wake up to muffled sounds of my baby crying because the monitor just completely decided to quit working. I have figured out how to “troubleshoot” it if you will to make it re-acquire the signal, but it’s like the receivers just freeze and lose all sound, if they are not beeping because they’ve lost the signal. If I had known that they were going to be this worthless, I would NOT have wasted the $65 that I spent. I had the Fisher Price lights and sounds monitors for 4 years and they were still working very well and were crystal clear and no problems. I just could not use them due to the laws preventing me from using anything that is 900MHz. Do not waste your money on this monitor…it will give you nothing but heartache and trouble. I really wish I had done some research and read the reviews on this product before I bought it…
