  I love this monitor. Yes it is a little grainy, but it works great. I would buy this again.

  Very good monitor.

  Pros:
  (+) Really like how it includes two monitors (so two people in different places can both monitor our son).
  (+) Like how the handheld video monitor can be connected and displayed on large TV

  Cons:
  (-) Some static interference once in a while
  (-) Handheld video monitor when not connected with the ac plug will go into sleep mode after a few minutes (not audio, just video). You’ll need to press a button on top to turn it back on
  (-) Can’t pan or zoom

  For roughly the same price, you can get the Summer Best View monitor which I also bought (kept both for different locations). Personally like that one better due to. It pretty much addresses all the down falls of this unit being reviewed: clearer picture, ability to pan & zoom and video stays on even when AC not connected. The only thing is that the Best View can’t connect to a larger TV and only includes the handheld unit. Really all you need in my opinion though.

  Summer makes great products.

  My husband and I got this product to monitor our very active two and a half year old son when we moved him out of the nursery. I am very happy with the quality of the image on both the 7in screen and the hand-held unit. The sound is a bit sensitive, but still good. I feel at ease because of this product.

  I bought this to replace an earlier model Summer video monitor and just love it. Since we have two floors, it is nice to have a monitor in our bedroom and a handheld that I can cart around with me. Everything works well, and it is so nice to see my child no matter where I am in the house. The video quality is good, not superior, and gives me what I need. If you are expecting television quality picture (especially those HD viewers out there)you won’t be thrilled. Overall, I am very pleased and wouldn’t be without this product.

  This is a GREAT monitor. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 beacuse of the volume control on the large screen. There is no happy medium, you either can’t hear it or its too loud…so you just kinda get used to it. However, the portable monitor wtih the small screen is super convenient. We had an older video monitor set that died but this one has MUCH beter clarity and great portability all around.

  I bought this extra camera for my daughter’s new room when I was expecting my second child since I hadn’t had any problems with the first monitor. Aside from a little static on the B channel I was happy with the results. Yes I do get static in certain areas but I just move the monitor around a little and it does the trick. The peace of mind of seeing the two rooms with one flick of a switch outweighs the static.

  I read some of the reviews that were negative and was concerned that this wouldn’t work for us. But the extra camera works great with our original camera and monitor even though both cameras are in the same room relatively close to each other. I called Summer before purchasing to confirm this exact model number is made to be used with my original camera and monitor because there are 2 or 3 different models and I wasn’t sure they were compatible. They indicated which model of extra camera I should get to work with my monitor and everything works as expected with no interference.

  When it works, the 2nd camera is great, but its reception is inconsistent.
  I Bought the second camera to monitor our twins with the same parent unit. We put this on channel B and the original camera on channel A. Like a prior reviewer said, the original does have slightly better color quality, but the 2nd camera is pretty good too so the difference is not enough to prevent buying the 2nd camera.
  However, while the reception on the original camera is great anywhere in the house, we get spotty reception on the 2nd camera depending on where the parent’s unit (handheld monitor) is. I’d say we get it only 40% of the time walking around the house. Luckily, it works where we need it most (by my bed) so I’m relatively happy with the second camera.

  We have the full camera/video set this camera is supposed to work with - however…it gave us tremendous interference when we tried to use it with the existing system it states it is compatable with…we could not use both the A and B channels on the monitor…only one channel would come in clear..and the other would sometimes work, but mostly not ….we ended up returning it to purchase a different set for our second baby…a 2.4 GHZ system so as not interfere with our existing 900 mgz system .

  So far very happy with the camera monitor….way worth the money. My toddler just starting sleeping in a big girl bed and it’s nice to be able to see if she gets out. I will be using the extra camera in the new babies room. Very clear picture. The sound has some static in it but not enough for it to be a problem : )

  I was a little worried after seeing the reviews here, but my wife called Summer and they assured us that this was the correct camera for our situation and told us they would take it as a return if it did not work.

  It works!

  We have a 15 month old son and a daughter on the way in a few weeks. We were about to buy a second video monitor system when my wife learned about just getting a second camera for our current system and using the B channel.

  Brilliant. Only one monitor to haul around and far less expense than having to buy another whole system.

  We installed the camera in our son’s new “big boy room” and tuned it to channel B and we switch between A for the “infant room” and B for his room and it works great.

  The “night vision’ is outstanding. You get a “night-vision” view of your child which is surprisingly clear and sharp. The day camera is full color and crisp as well.

  Occasionally if you move far enough from the camera and there are others in your neighborhood with the same camera, you will get their kid instead of your own - but this has never been a real problem for us.

  I also saw a review where one person was surprised there was no “scanning” or way to see two children at once. I don’t know if they had the first system and then added on, or bought the whole thing at once. If they added on, then I’d say that it was pretty obvious that you weren’t going to get a “scanner” or “see two cameras at once” view. It is pretty clear you will have to switch from A to B with a simple switch on the side.

  The way we use the camera, that is perfectly fine. You don’t sit and watch your kid like it is a tv show. You merely click on the tv monitor from time to time to check on them, especially if you think you hear something. We’ve found this to be an outstanding option and thank you Summer for not forcing us to buy a whole new system when all we needed was one more camera!

  I have two cameras attached to this monitor and it does the job just fine.

  It’s true that the cameras sometimes intefere with each other and the picture isn’t always crystal clear but toggling the “A/B” switch back-and-forth solves the first problem and who needs/expects a cystal clear picture in the dark from and easy to install, wireless, and relatively inexpensive device?!

  During daytime naps when the kids’ rooms aren’t pitch dark, I can see them clearly enough to know to if their eyes are shut but at night when their rooms are dark I lose lots of detail but can still see clearly enough to know if they’re moving around, on their back vs. tummmy, etc.

  Their might be better ones out there, but this has worked well enough for me that I never bothered shopping for a different one.

  We bought this a second camera for the handheld monitor + camera. It initially worked but for some reason after a couple of days there was no video, only audio, from this source. No amount of configuring with the two cameras would make this unit work. The company, Healthcheck, gave us grief to no end about returning/exchanging. Not until we gave them a bad review on Amazon.com did they relent. You shouldn’t have to go through so much fighting to force customer service!

  This is a great product and when I bought this camera/monitor setup two years ago it did not have a color picture, higher transmission frequency, nor could you use two cameras for one monitor and switch back and forth, as you can now and the monitor has a larger screen than it did back then. All reasons why I upgraded when the power adapter on my old monitor no longer worked to charge the monitor anymore and the warranty had expired just prior to the monitor going on the fritz. Unfortunately, the old camera was incompatible with the current model, but for good reason with all the upgrades to it described above.

  The only problem I find is that I have to turn the volume on the monitor down at night, otherwise the static pops keep my wife and I awake. Turning the volume down low, however, somewhat defeats the purpose–which is to monitor the kids in the other room for signs of trouble.

  We have a second camera in our daughter’s room (2 years old) that does not suffer as much from the static problems as does the one located in our son’s (9 months old) room. It is not due to the distance either, as both kids rooms are upstairs next to ours and equadistant to the monitor on our nightstand next to our bed.

  The camera is very good for picture color in daylight and black and white at night. The infared at night is exceptional and you can see everything you would want to, even when they are not asleep and you can see their little eyes looking at you (well, looking into the camera’s green light that is). The camera also gives exceptional sound quality of everything in the room. When we put our son down for a nap and turn on his Bach mobile you can hear it quite loudly even though the camera is four feet away from his crib and the volume of the mobile is on low.

  All in all a good product, that I would recommend for any new parents that want to keep an eye on thier kids.

  This monitor is really easy to use. The pan and zoom features are really nice. The picture and sound are clear and the range is about what they claim. I have not experienced any interference with the wireless network in our home. The screen is bigger than a lot of the competitors out there. However, I do wish it came with a bigger screen like the other Summer monitor. I probably would have purchased that one if it were digital but we opted for the digital monitor instead to get the clarity and privacy. The other Summer monitor that isn’t digital has a hand held video monitor, a larger 7″ screen and an A/V output on the smaller hand held so you can plug it in to your tv for an even bigger picture. All of those features would have been nice on this one but again traded those features for the digital feature. It is true that the screen flashes bright and then light while on the night vision mode but I’m not entirely sure that can be avoided. The motor for panning left/right up/down is so quiet our baby doesn’t even notice. The picture is so good that I can actually see her breathing. As far as the battery life goes, I can’t really comment too much on that. I used it for max of about 3-4 hours and it still had battery life in it. I haven’t really needed to be away from her for more than that without being in a place where I can plug it in. I usually let it run on battery while I’m doing chores around the house, but when I’m settled in a room I just plug it in. Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase. Our daughter has had several medical problems and this has helped give me peace of mind. I’m not running into her room every 5 min just to make sure she’s still breathing or she hasn’t gotten herself twisted in the crib bars. I would recommend this to a friend.

  I always figured my first review for Amazon would be for a CD that only I was cool enough to appreciate or for a movie that no one else had heard of. Instead my first review is for a baby monitor. Oh, the times, they are a changin’.

  First off, this monitor has a horrible name, so if you’re like me and you did a bunch of research on these things, you probably got confused between reviews from various online retailers. This is the “Summer Best View DIGITAL Video Baby Monitor”…There are other similarly named products that do not perform near as well as this one, just to be clear.

  This is our first kid and therefore our first video monitor. And it performs great. The video in night-vision or full-light is good enough for what you need it to do: show you your baby and how he/she is. You won’t get TV quality out of this for the price. But as a baby monitor it’s great. Audio quality is good, you can hear tiny noises. Again, no it won’t sound like a professional boom mic, but the quality is such that you can hear your baby clearly. That’s the point.

  It has pan/zoom which work fine, but for us with a newborn, this is just a bonus. I’m not looking for Scorcese type stuff here, since the kid isn’t mobile. The volume is within a menu, not a separate button, but this really is not that big a deal. Try it, it really is not as bad as you would think.

  I’ve had no issue with the pulsing red lights, and it does not cause my night vision to pulse as others have said. Maybe that’s cuz I keep the brightness adjusted down so my kid doesn’t look like Casper the ghost in night-vision. As for the green power LED on the front, well that was a mistake on somebody’s part. But it is easily fixable with electrical tape. Everything else about this product works so well, that I don’t see the point in dinging the product for something easily fixable with tape. OH, and I have had no interference with my wireless devices at all. I’m running 802.11g and I’ve had no signal loss. This is across 2 laptops, a NAS, a wireless printer, a PS3, a Wii and an XBOX 360…Everything continued to send/receive perfectly. My portable phone is 5.8 GHz, so I have no interference there either.

  For the money, you can’t find a better video monitor. Go in with reasonable expectations, and I think you will find this system is pretty close to perfect.
