This was the cheapest monitor in the store when I was shopping for baby monitors. It’s worked fine for us — I can have the volume on very low and still hear the baby when he cries (or even hear him breathe if I’m paying attention.) It only has 2 channels, but we live in a pretty congested area and both places we’ve lived we’ve been able to use either Channel I or Channel II without interference, though the signal doesn’t live up to the product’s name of being “crystal clear”. The base unit has survived being knocked on the floor a bunch of times without damage.
Now for the downsides: I don’t know much about radios, but this one seems pretty susceptible to local EM interference. For instance, I was getting noticeable static on both channels until I moved the cell-phone charger (not even charging a phone) from its place next to the monitor to the other side of the room. The other downside is that the receiver unit *eats* 9-volt batteries — we have to replace the battery every week. (I don’t know about the base unit because we plug that into the wall.) You can take out the battery and plug the receiver into the wall, but then you’re stuck finding an outlet wherever you want to use it. Replacing the battery isn’t too hard but it does require a screwdriver, so I keep one by my bed.
The bottom line is that if you’re on a budget and just need a monitor at night, you’ll probably do fine buying this one and plugging both base and receiver into the wall. If you’ve got a lot of electronic devices you might experience some static, and if you want to use this for a mobile receiver (and/or base) be prepared to buy a lot of 9-volt batteries. You might do better with a more expensive monitor that has a longer battery life.

We’ve owned this monitor for a couple years now, and we think it’s great. The volume is great. There’s no interference. It has a good range. The light’s not been too bright for us (and our child sleeps in a darkened room with blackout shades, etc., so dark does matter to us). The only problem we’ve had with it is that it seems to be possessed. Yes, by a ghost. Of course, that’s not really the case, but the receiver turns itself on ALL THE TIME after we’ve turned it off. We can’t figure out why it’s turning on, but it seems to have something to do with sudden movement. Maybe. Or maybe it’s a ghost. But the thing inevitably is turned on and beeping from deep in our luggage whenever we travel and pick up our bag at the carousel. And maybe that’s why whichever bag containing this monitor ALWAYS arrives with a note in it from the Federal Aviation safety folks telling us our bag was opened and checked. When I travel with the monitor in our diaper bag in the car, we notice this problem the most: the receiver turns on about 80% of the time after I’ve stopped the car, sometimes after I’ve started it. I’ve checked to make sure nothing’s pressing on the button in the bag, and it still happens. Probably a ghost. Yeah, a ghost. So, four stars it is.

We purchased this monitor based on the feedback from others.
The price was great and we have used the monitor for 3 months.
Unfortunately the plug in charger pin snapped off in the baby monitor, making it impossible to charge the monitor and render the unit useless. I was disappointed with the quality of the charger and how weak the charging pin was. I know this unit is cheap, but I would have expected a more rugged adapter.
As I was disappointed with the quality I was wanting a replacement, but wasnt confident that this would happen. I spoke to Amazon who instructed me to call the manufacturer Saftey First. I called Safety First and their response was excellent. They arranged for FedEx to collect the monitor, in order for their quality team to look at the monitor and shipped me a replacement unit free of charge.
For a monitor at this price point I would definately recommend it, especially as it is backed up by great customer service from Safety First.

It seems that with monitors, you do get what you pay for. We bought a cheapie monitor from Target for $17.00 and it was TERRIBLE. The interference was so awful that to get it up to a level where you could hear what was happening in the room, it would be so loud with static and beeping that you couldn’t sleep.
This monitor is vastly superior. Sound is crystal clear. The only issue I have with it is that the parent unit doesn’t stand up very well, and therefore takes up more room on the nightstand than it should. But other than that, we love it!

Sensitivity is outstanding; I can stand two rooms away, tap on the wall, and hear it through the parent unit. (If you’re in the nursery, don’t say a single word that you wouldn’t want transmitted to the parent unit.)
Range is good; covers our entire house and (small) yard; reception begins to break up about 150′ down the block.
The parent unit is absolutely silent; no hiss or static audible, just the sounds picked up by the child unit.
The rechargeable batteries for the parent unit show good life, and automatically recharge when the unit is running on house current.
The only down-sides are that the parent unit’s max volume is only adequate, and an owner’s manual is hard to come by (unit ships without one, and you have to call to request a hard-copy. For some bizarre reason, it’s not available for download)

I thought this monitor was great when I first got it, and it was pretty good as long as my son was in his crib. It isn’t staticy like most, however, after owning this for 9 months I found the cons far outway any pros.
It’s range for picking up sound is very small. It’s range for picking up any noise is very, very small. It says 4 feet, but that’s 4 feet directly in front of it and if you have a toddler who moves around or likes to crawl out of bed and wander the room or sit next to the door instead of lay in bed and cry, this monitor won’t pick him/her up. It may pick up my son faintly if he’s gotten out of bed, but usually he can get out of his room without me hearing it through the monitor.
The monitor is VERY bright, it flashes while it charges and if you like to sleep in the dark this monitor will light up the room. It doesn’t make any sounds, like beeping, to alert you the battery is low it just starts flashing so if you happen to not be near it or see it flashing it will just die. I found that to be most annoying, there’s no page button so if it has died you have to go on a manhunt for it if you’ve accidently misplaced it.
There’s only one monitor so you have to take the cord with you to keep it charged up. With every charge it seems to hold less and less and last shorter periods of time on battery. I’ve owned the monitor for maybe 9 months now and it completely died, while it was charging. Of course it won’t work just plugged in, so it’s now useless.
I would much rather have a monitor that has a little static than this one. Don’t waste your money.

This product was unreliable from the start. We were able to use it for about 1 year, though we always had to turn it on and off a few times before it received properly. Now, it hardly ever works. It’s a cheaply made, crappy product.

I have owned and used this monitor for more than 5 years with all 3 of my children. It has been great! There are no fancy bells or whistles but I have been able to hear every little sound my children have made while sleeping.
I did run into trouble for the first time this year when I had to use the monitor at my in laws house and my sister in law had her newer monitor set up. I don’t know if it as some kind of frequency interference or what but in that instance the monitor was useless. That however is the first and only time we have ever had any sort of issue since we purchased this in 2003.
I do not keep things for the sake of keeping them but this monitor is one that I will not get rid of when I no longer need it for my little one. I will keep this in my linen closet for out of town guests with little ones and I plan on getting many more years out of this monitor. Great deal for the money!

We registered for and recieved this monitor when we had our first child. It was FANTASTIC!! We never had any problems with it whatsoever. Then, when our son became a toddler, he broke the base. We were expecting our 2nd child at the time so we just replaced it. Everything started out just fine. But very shortly after we bought it, the channel switches went all screwy. To listen on channel 2, the base had to be on channel 1 and the recievers on channel 2. then the channel switches on the recievers sort of shorted out. If they were even slightly jostled they would go into this in-between two channels setting and turn the reception to static. We had to constantly jiggle them to get them back to the correct channel, which wasn’t actually the correct channel according to the switch on the base. ???
So, our first experience with these monitors was exceptionally good. Our 2nd and last experience was disappointing. I think we’ll try the Graco set this time around.

I bought the Safety 1st Safe Glow Monitor late last year. Now it switches off in the middle of the night without warning. I can’t help but wonder how many times my daughter has woken up crying and I didn’t hear her because I was depending on this thing??? I tried to call Safety 1st to ask them about and was asked to jump through hoops in order to get a replacement for this cheap monitor. You will be asked to fax your receipt along with your information. They verify it and then ask you to mail certain parts from the unit. Finally they will send you a check or voucher to replace it. NOT worth my time. I’ve already told them that I am going to buy another monitor, but it will NOT be a Safety 1st product.

When we first got this monitor set, the receivers would randomly screech out loud static which was really super. But then they wouldn’t, when they weren’t working at all. Sometimes they would just turn off, but you could get them to work with a vigorous shake, jiggle of the wire in the jack, or a slap against your palm. Great.
So we contacted Safety 1st and they sent us a new set. This set isn’t as crappy as the 1st set but there is a lot of interference that comes and goes - worse with one of the recievers than the other and at random intervals. As the fearless GW Bush said: “fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.” So we decided these are going back and we just ordered a Graco monitor set.
The quality of the product is clearly poor. My wife and I both very much liked the design and the night-light and loops and such, but if they don’t work properly there isn’t much a good design can do to help.
I’d suggest that parents steer clear of these and try another brand.

This is our third child, so third monitor. We liked the others sometimes, but this one was the better one. It was usable all the way around the block when baby was napping (can’t keep the boys indoors long!). I so loved the cordless option, but mostly kept the receivers plugged in to preserve the 9-volt batteries. The night light was also helpful to us. I didn’t give it 5 stars as there were some times that I had to change the channel to clear up static, but obviously, that’s why they made it with different channels. I have two close neighbors with babies, and would guess that was part of interference problem.

Just ok. You can hear the baby, but its crackly and makes static noise ALL The time. Id pay more for something that will last and work more effectively
