This monitor is the best! I really love the fact that both units can be cordless, the baby unit is rechargable, the range is amazing, and it is so clear that you can easily hear the baby breathing! After four years and two kids (and some seriously hard wear and tear) we needed to replace ours and went with another brand because of some extra little features that sounded fun. I could not believe how horrible it was in comparison! (It was Safety 1st by the way.) I realized that the silly features some monitors offer are useless if overall the product DOESN’T WORK. Needless to say we are returning it and going with what we know is tried and true.

Like others, I get a lot of of static. A couple of people mentioned battery life. Mine gets terrible battery life.

I bought these for my brand new baby cousin’s arrival. My aunt says they work wonderful and the double receivers are very convenient.

I got this monitor when my first child was born, 6 years ago. It is still going strong! I think it is great for the price.

PROS - the paging button, having two receivers (for when I inevitably loose one), being able to use batteries OR plug in for all units, lights display, two channels to avoid hearing the neighbors, clear reception in a small house or apt. Durable - my kids (and I) were constantly dropping the receivers and they work just fine.

CONS - Range is fairly short. I could go to the next apt over without any problem, or get the mail but that was the limit. (I now live in the boonies and am looking for a REALLY long range monitor.) Static gets bad once out of the range (descibed above.)

It met my needs great - I love all the First Years products I’ve owned. They seem to design products with lots of insight into the needs of real families.

We have only tested this item due to our baby arriving next month. The unit charged well, but we had to play around with the channels due to the first channel’s pick-up of occurrence in an unknown house in our neighborhood… A little concerned that perhaps they could reciprocate and hear us :-(

Terrible product. Didn’t even have a range of 10 feet in my apartment. Do not buy this product if you live in an apartment type area with a lot of possible frequency disturbances.

  • 6 Shirvanian

I liked this a lot. It was so sensitive I could have it across the room in the nursery and still hear when my baby woke up and started talking to herself. We had no problems with static. However: the parent unit does use up batteries like crazy if it is not plugged in. We used this for about a year until my 2-year old dipped the baby unit in water and it stopped working.

I live in a small apartment so I didn’t require a really good long distance monitor. I like the fact that this works from the mains and I am not using up loads of batteries. I have had no issues with switching on the parts etc. There is a little amount of static that comes over on the monitors but I have still been able to hear my baby over the monitor. I have found it great at picking up the stirring noises my child makes so I am able to get to my Little One before the real crying begins. I have relied on it at night with my little one sleeping in another room and I have not been let down. I only gave four stars due to the white noise that can be heard over the speaker and also I would want a better one if I was in a bigger house, but for my apartment it is great!!

    I absolutely LOVE this monitor!

I really have never experienced any of the problems that anyone has complained about. Instead, over the past 22 months, this monitor has brought me complete peace-of-mind. It is so portable and easy to use. And I find it to be extremely reliable.

The only issue at first was that the parent unit drains AAA batteries very quickly when not using the AC Adapter, so we bought two sets of rechargeable batteries and a small charger. That way we always have a fresh set of batteries. Problem solved!

I have recommended this monitor to everyone I know with children.

This was the seat I was planning to buy, but after trying it out in the store with my 7 month old (who is already 21 lbs.), I quickly realized that the crotch buckle (for lack of better terminology) was too short and cut into his legs, and it didn’t seem to have adjustment options. We went with Evenflo seats instead (the Titan and Triumph). The buckle may adjust, but we didn’t see any way to do that in the store.

The latch system works awesome in this…if you are having trouble with it, read the instructions. A knee on the seat while rocking it back and forth and pulling up on the tightening strap will get it rock solid tight. The harness tightening strap was a bit of trouble at first, but make sure it’s not buried when you install the seat and pulling straight up on it will snug up the shoulder straps. Everything works as advertised and our little guy is MUCH more comfortable then with his graco snugride. It’s a very adaptable seat and fits in a lot of vehicles. Even fits in the back of grandpa’s extended cab Chevy truck (barely)! Highly recommend to all my friends.

I recently purchased this seat for my 8 month old (19 lbs./ 28 & 1/2″). I really wanted a Britax Boulevard, but it wasn’t in the budget and the reviews for this seat were quite good. The NHTSA’s “ease of use ratings” clinched it for me. This is the only convertible seat (other than a Recaro $$$) to earn an overall 4 star rating.

    http://www.nhtsa.gov/portal/nhtsa_eou/info.jsp?type=convertible

I drive a 1999 Toyota 4-runner (no LATCH) and installed the seat in the right rear back seat as my 9 year old also sits in the back seat. The only other seats I’ve had are a Graco Snugride (which I liked a lot, but can’t lug the giant baby in it anymore) and a Britax Roundabout, which is a nice narrow convertible seat, but not cushy for long rides and doesn’t have head support.

    Pros:
    * It is very comfortable for my daughter.

    * It was very easy to install (10 minutes), by myself. Using the built in lockoffs was easy and the seat does not move at all in any direction.

    * The head pilow insert cradles her head when she sleeps, no flop.

    * The adjustable harness height is great, no rethreading!

    * The adjustable center buckle (2 positions) will help the seat to grow with my child.

    * 35 lbs rear-facing and 65 lbs forward facing!

    Cons:
    * With the removeable headrest installed while the seat is rear facing there would be very little legroom for the person in the seat in front of the car seat.

    * The level line sticker was nearly coming off when I unwrapped it.

    * The harness release latch and tightening strap are a little difficult to reach when rear-facing.

    * The “ratcheting” harness tightener is a little weird to get used to, but it works.

I bought one for my son three years ago. It stopped working just after I used several times (within half a year). Last week, I bought another one for my new born girl. I tested it. It was not working well. Sometimes it never beeps so that I don’t know if it has completed. The thermometer should record previous reading, but this function never works. I had to return this thermometer.

  • 14 Irwin

I like this protect simply because it is easy to use and easy to read. Not only is it easy to read, but when it is time to take a baby’s temperature they are not always cooperative. It is especially difficult to take baby’s temperature rectal when they are irritable. So, I like this because the temperature can be taken three different ways, which is also good for accuracy.

  • 15 Ucci

We’ve been using the seat for about a month. We love it. The best thing about it and the reason we bought it is because its 5-point harness until 65lbs. No other seat in this price range has that capability. If you have a large baby, they will reach the typical 40lbs far younger than the ideal age to put them into a boooster. As for the chair itself, it is large, keep that in mind if you drive a compact. We drive a chevy equinox and this seat has to go behind the passenger side because my husband is 6 ft tall and needs to be able to recline the front driver seat. Also, based on other reviews, I was worried about the buckle and my babies thighs b/c others said it was low and right between their thighs. My son is in the 95% percintile and has HUGE thighs, and we have no problem with the buckle. He has so much room that he really sits with his legs spread a little so there is no rubbing. We did have to remove the extra cushions that came with the seat to make room for his thighs, but the seat itself has a lot of cushion and is very comfortable. We had no problems with instalation, although we did have to place an adjustor under our seat to compensate for the backseat’s incline. The true fit doesn’t move at all. As for the parents that complain about the baby’s head going forward, I don’t see how that can happen if they installed their seat with the proper recline (check the red line on the side of the seat). My kid’s head falls to the side when he goes to sleep. He has a little stuffed animal that we use to give support to the side of his head since the seat is so roomy and we took out the extra cushions. All in all, great seat for the price.

We purchased this seat last week, and have been very luke-warm about it. We’ve used it with both the latch system (it has really great quick-release latch hooks, which was nice), and with a seat belt. Once it’s installed, it hardly moves at all, but getting it installed was quite difficult. It has a great idea - a lever system that locks the seat belt/latch belt into place. But once you’ve pulled the belt tight enough, it’s slid down over where the lever secures it, and you’re trying to push it back out of the way to lock the lever in place. There were a lot of inappropriate words trying to get it in, but it definitely stays put and hardly wiggles at all once it’s in. Since this is our 3rd car seat (an infant seat with two bases, and now a convertible in each car), we certainly didn’t expect it to be easy to install, so that’s not really the reason my rating is only 3 stars.

The reason for only 3 stars is the use of the quick-release/tightening function when it’s rear-facing. It’s in the front center of the seat, so it’s pushed right up against your back seat, making it nearly impossible to tighten/loosen. Once the seat is turned around, however, I think it will be great. Unfortunately we have 6 more months ’til then, even though our baby is already 20 lbs.

The removable head rest is also a nice feature, although it doesn’t really make any difference to us since he’s already reached the size limit requiring the head rest to be used. Be warned though, the head rest has a very nice hand hold in the back to grab and pull it out by - it looks like a great handle to carry the whole seat around with if you’re not paying enough attention - but the head rest doesn’t lock into the seat. So I dropped it on my foot picking it up to carry out to the car. Ouch!

Also, it claims to be smaller and deeper so your kid fits well in it without taking up as much room as other car seats - our baby fits great, and I think he will for the entire use of the seat, since he’s still got most of the padding in there with him, but it doesn’t seem to take up any less room than our other car seats. It still hits the back of the front seats in our little Nissan Ultima (about 15 years old, so small car), and seems just as wide and bulky as our other convertible seat. It also required quite a few layers of folded towels under it to be level.

As far as the cushioning, it’s definitely soft and comfortable. We spent 6 hours in the car yesterday, without any crying or fussing - lots of playing and napping, so I’m guessing there’s not any spots that poke into him or anything. Although, like I said, he’s still got nearly all of the padding in there with him.
